What is Dermatitis?
Dermatitis means "inflammation or redness of the skin" and it passed from one person to another. Dermatitis is caused by irritating chemical, allergic reaction or substances. There are several types of dermatitis like.
Allergic contact dermatitis: It is caused by physical contact substance or material contact with the skin. It creates rashes, red itchy skin and bumps.
Atopic dermatitis: Atopic dermatitis is caused by eczema or an allergic reaction. Mainly affect to knees, elbows and the face that usually appear in babies and young children.
Irritant contact dermatitis: It is caused by substances which act as an irritant such as soap, chemical and detergent.
Stasis Dermatitis: Stasis dermatitis is an inflammatory skin which occurs on the lower legs and around the ankles most affect inner side of the calf. Skin becomes thick and itchy which occurring swelling and keeps enough blood.
Seborrheic Dermatitis: Seborrheic Dermatitis is a inflammatory condition which cause white to yellowish scale on oily areas such as inside the ear, behind the ear, middle of the chest and scalp.
Neurodermatitis Dermatitis: It is an itchy skin which is caused by repeated scratching or chafing. Most affected areas are neck, upper forearm, scalp, wrist, and ankle.
Causes of Dermatitis: There are number of causes for dermatitis like eczema (About eczema) is common cause, genetic factors, allergies (Abolut Allergies), obesity (About obesity), mental stressor and so on. Some possible causes are dry skin, diapers due to wet padding of the dippers, allergens like soap, house hold chemicals, cleaning product, plants, dust and detergent. Other factors are family history of allergic, asthma (About Asthma), living or working environment. Fungal and over scratching is also increase the risk of dermatitis.
Symptoms of Dermatitis: All type of dermatitis has some common symptoms and some has different. Common signs are red, scaly itchy rashes on skin. Irritation is common sign of dermatitis. Some other symptoms are:
• Redness, swelling, dryness or warmth
• Painful in Irritant contact dermatitis
• Difficulty in breathing
• Rapid heartbeat
• Small red-brown bumps on skin
• Patchy skin
• Children's Cradle Cap
Some symptoms are depending on the type of dermatitis.
Precautions from Dermatitis: Avoid soap and detergent, wear smooth cotton cloth help to avoid irritation, Use lotion or anti- itch cream on affected areas, try to cover the affected area with a dressing, wear gloves at night, avoid wet dressing be careful don't wash and scrub the skin.
Treatment of Dermatitis: First of all doctor find the area which is affected by dermatitis. Each type has its own treatment for contact dermatitis wash the area through the water, medication should be used if needed. Some treatments are hydrocortisone cream, Pimecrolimus cream, Tacrolimus ointment and other which is prescribed by doctor. Atopic dermatitis cannot cure but controlled doctor may prescribe a corticosteroid, antihistamine for itching, Phototherapy and home humidifier.
