What is Amnesia?
Amnesia is a condition resulting in loss of memory because of brain hemorrhage. It can be last for two hours, two months or few hours for a long time. Many people have amnesia in the form of a transitory "blackout”. Amnesia may also involve a total loss of memory about the period or event. In severe cases, people not only loss his past memory but also have painful event, period of time and his or her identity. Person who has amnesia lives only with present no collection of the past. This loss of memory occurs due to some brain hemorrhage, head injury, stroke, psychological experience or a result of disease such as trauma or stress. Some common types of amnesia are:
Anterograde Amnesia: In this condition the person short term memory is impacted due to injury to the head which causes brain trauma.
Retrograde Amnesia: In this condition memory loss for events before brain hemorrhage.
Lacunar amnesia: This type of amnesia create blockage in your mind.
Transient Global Amnesia: This type of amnesia affected to those people who are in middle age, the patient loss all memory for a temporary period of time and normally caused when blood vessels.
Korsakoff syndrome: This condition is caused due to intake of alcohol or chronic drug.
Posthypnotic amnesia: In this type individual mind keeps unfit to remember which has been a part of your long memory.
Blackout phenomenon: Amnesia is caused by heavy drinking alcohol and person cannot remember chunks of time.
Causes of Amnesia: Amnesia is the result of brain damage that forms the limbic system, which controls your memories and emotions. Memory function engaged many different parts of brains. Most often amnesia is caused by brain damage or head injury to the parts of brain. Brain damage or head injury can occur from oxygen deprivation, head injury include car accidents, can lead to memory problems. Encephalitis, use of specific drugs, Tumors in areas of the brain, some seizure disorder, Degenerative brain diseases like Alzheimer’s disease and stroke. There also may be a genetic factor of dissociative disorders usually from close relatives who have similar disease. Some emotional causes occurs amnesia like Child abuse, Sexual abuse, torture being present during a terrorist act and physiological stress.
Symptoms of Amnesia: Amnesia is a condition in which person has loss his memory due to several conditions usually caused by physical injury or damage to the brain. People, who have amnesia difficulty in learning new things, have problems with short-term memory. Let's see several symptoms of amnesia:
